The Azores Islands was on my bucket list for the longest time and so when we got the chance to spend a week in Sao Miguel to kick off six-weeks travelling in Portugal, it was a dream come true. Not least, because our very first stop was Senhora Da Rosa. This hotel oasis in the capital of Ponta Delgada is set in an old pineapple farm and was the perfect jump off point for exploring the island and settling into travelling life.

The Room
We reserved a standard double, which was so big that even with a pullout bed that it comfortably housed the three of us and six weeks of luggage! For those needing a little more space there are family suites with bunk beds and lounge areas to give maximum space. All of the rooms come with outdoor space, either a courtyard garden (like ours) or a spacious balcony and our bathroom was recently renovated.

The Food
Breakfast came in the form of both a continental buffet and an omelette station which set us up incredibly well for our days exploring. The hotel also boasts two restaurants: Magma which serves traditional Portuguese and Azorean fare and a Sushi Bar and garden, Mirante, with stunning rooftop views of the Azorean mountains. We tried both and found them to be high quality and while there was not a specific childrens menu available there were plenty of children’s menu-esque dishes like teriyaki chicken and rice in Mirante!
Amenities and Activities
Senhora Da Rosa has a childrens play area and you can reserve childcare through reception. The play space was big, bright and welcoming and the toys inside were probably suited up to age 5 and 6. Outside there was a large pool (unheated, which is common for Portugal) and in June we were lucky enough to have sunbathing weather so it was perfect. Also, set amongst the old pineapple farm is a heated plunge pool, sauna and steam room. There is also a pilates studio, small gym and spa treatments available in the Musgo Spa.

The Azores are an island of adventure and where Senhora da Rosa sits (in the centre of Sao Miguel island in Ponta Delgada) it could not be better situated as both a jump off point for exploring the island and a quiet, nature filled haven to return to. Overall
Off-season you can grab a room here from around £200 a night which is a great rate for both the style, service and location. We were so pleased that Senhora was our jump off point both for our Azores Adventure, being surrounded by nature and a little luxury was the perfect way to ease us in to everything these islands had to offer us.
