Hotel Review, Terra Rosa
At the end of six weeks travelling in Portugal we found ourselves in Northern Portugal wanting a little luxury to cap off a beautiful family trip. Terra Rosa, which is 45 minutes from Porto airport – just outside of Ponte de Lima, was the perfect end to our adventure. A casa style stay nestled in a vineyard, it was quiet, charming and had a real depth of luxury.

The Room
The room was like a nest – muted, earthy tones with deeply comfortable mattresses and an amazing rainfall shower. We went for a double room with a pull-out, which was definitely on the cosy side once a pull-out bed had been added! We stayed for three nights and I think if we were to book again we would opt for a suite with a balcony for the three of us so that we all have room to breathe a little more! This didn’t impact our enjoyment – everything was so beautiful but we would have definitely loved more space.

The Food
Everything we ate at Terra Rosa was fresh, delicious and sumptuous. The breakfast was a buffet affair and we spent long lazy mornings in the restaurant garden (complete with play kitchen for littles) pouring over the small but well curated breakfast selection. Lunch and dinner was from the same menu and was absolutely delicious. I became obsessed with the padron peppers and tomato and mozzarella salad. There isn’t a children’s menu, but there was plenty of ‘child adjacent’ offerings on the menu such as meat and cheese boards and pizza. The food offering is small enough that you will want to venture out if staying more than a few days, however. But we were so happy to stay and be cocooned for the last few days in our sunshine bubble, which I think says plenty about the quality of what was on offer. The hotel will even prepare a picnic for you to take into the grounds of the vineyard.

Amenities and Activities
The main activity here is long days by the heated pool. It was such a joy to find a heated swim after six weeks and there was a safe shallow area. Looking out over the vineyards our days here just went so quickly. We also took the hotel bikes out into the vineyards to explore the grounds and find the swings located in the heart of the vines. For more adult activities, you can harvest grapes or indulge in a wine tasting. The home-grown rose was very much to my taste!! Spa treatments are also on offer for a further nudge to slow down and unwind.

From here you can also take day trips to Porto, up-and-coming Braga or pretty Ponte De Lima itself – all within easy driving distance.
Overall
This was not a high-octane family holiday, but it was a delicious sunny cocoon of luxury where we felt totally welcome as a three. We have the happiest memories from this stay, soaking in the last of our long sunshine days before a slow return to normality. This hotel would be perfect for a first break away with a young baby where you could be close to your room for snoozy naps and come away feeling totally restored.
