If you’re looking for somewhere with pristine beaches, achingly cool resorts and laid-back beach clubs – look no further than Comporta in Portugal. This tiny town BLEW. US. AWAY. on every level. With increasing accommodation options on the way, now is the time to put Comporta on your must visit list!

Useful tips
How to get there: The easiest way to reach Comporta is by flying into Lisbon and taking an hour and 15 minute transfer or hire a car. I would err towards hiring a car as that would be helpful for getting around once you are there if you are not staying in a beach-side resort, although the town itself is really cycle friendly if getting around on 2 wheels is more your thing! We actually drove up from the Algarve (Faro is only a 2 hour drive) so there are multiple options for flights and dual-centre holidays.

When to go: We went in late June and the weather was *chefs kiss*: sunbathing weather, not too hot but warm enough that we could go to the beach all day and stay for sunset. Late May-September would definitely be your sweet spot weather wise.
Where to stay
The only word I have for the stays in Comporta is luxe. At every price point your options for stays are minimalist beach-cool, with muted tones as far as the eye can see. Stays can be expensive so I have included a mix of what’s on offer:
Budget
Airbnb can be a treasure trove if you get in quickly for this area. These two stays can be grabbed for around £800 for a week in June:
Comporta Cabin 2 – Houses for Rent in Comporta, Setúbal, Portugal – Airbnb
Cafofos da Zeta, Cozy Pool House – Tiny houses for Rent in Setúbal, Setúbal, Portugal – Airbnb

Mid-range
B-Hostel is hostel accommodation with a hotel vibe. With design-led family rooms, a pool and games/lounge area it offers all of the comfort of a hotel with hostel touches such as housekeeping on request and a shared kitchen for any self-catering. With an attached pizza restaurant and delicatessen it strikes a great balance offering holiday vibes but at a more affordable price point than some of the other resorts in the area.
high-end
Luxury accommodation is where it’s at in Comporta with several options to choose from: AlmaLusa, Quinta da Comporta, Spatia Comporta and Sublime Comporta all ooze pared-back style befitting of this high-end beach town. Keep your eyes peeled too for the Atlantic Club, which will be offering villa style holiday homes in the near future.
Where to eat and what to do
The beach is the thing down in Comporta with huge expanses of sand, dunes and the Atlantic ocean – peppered with beach clubs that wouldn’t be out of place in Ibiza or Byron Bay. Sublime Comporta Beach Club, Comporta Café, JNcQUOIand and Ilha do Arroz serve up atmosphere, great food and (importantly for me) crisp cold rosé. Each with indoor and outdoor tables, some in the sand, make for relaxing lunches for the whole family. You could even splash out and rent a day-bed to extend the vibes.

Comporta town itself is a boutique and antique shopping haven; head to Casa Da Cultura for a high-end boho market experience and while you’re there grab a slice from Pizza Pisco. Elsewhere in Comporta town Mesa, Gomes and Saõ Jõaõ serve up incredible Portuguese fare most of which is straight from the sea.
Top Tip
Watch out for the Storks!
Stork nests have been built all around Comporta to encourage nesting and to conserve the local population.
Comporta is one of those places that I could see us returning to again and again. There was one day we were lying on the beach watching dolphins play in the waves and I thought, wow this really is paradise. So don’t delay! This place is going to increase in popularity and now is definitely the time to go and experience this beautiful corner of Portugal.
